"To reveal your uphill path And light torches for others. To free your stoical breath and set yourself on fire." "Smoke signal" is a poem written by the artist. Like a nursery rhyme, the poem suggests a series of actions linked to the imagery of fire and light that allude to both arduous survival and painful self-destruction. The artist chooses to print the four verses on 20 Clipper’s lighter stickers in order to introduce the poem itself into everyday life. The lighter, which is often stolen, lost or forgotten, becomes the vehicle for this small poem.
